CENTRAL-BÉKÉS ASSOCIATION OF MUNICIPALITIES FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Middle-Békés Center covers the regional development sub-centre which is founded on the close cooperation of the towns of Békéscsaba, Gyula and Békés. As a model-region, the sub-centre together with its micro regions aims to give an example of organizing a quasi-metropolitan area with more than 170,000 inhabitants, creating a new type of rural-city relationship, promoting and institutionalizing the cross-border co-operation of medium-size towns both in Hungary and in Europe.
The primary strategic objective of the sub-centre is to find development opportunities based on local strengths and values of the three micro regions in particular and to set an example for the country in general. The creation of the Middle-Békés Region and the Békés-Arad development axis serves to integrate the region into the regional division of labor on the EU level, and to generate sustainable growth by dynamic cross-border cooperation.
The basis of the institutionalized cooperation is the municipal association (the Middle-Békés Territorial Development Municipal Association), founded by the three towns originally in 1997, but set in motion in September 2005, when programming for the period EU financial period of 2007-2013 began. The Middle-Békés Territorial Development Municipal Association (Békéscsaba, Gyula and Békés towns, or shortly Middle-Békés Center, KBC) created a Development Agency as a working organization with the goal to prepare and manage common development projects for the three towns and the connected micro regions. The program is carried out within the framework of the Hungary-Romania and Hungary-Serbia and Montenegro Cross-Border Cooperation Program, with co-financing by the European Union and the Republic of Hungary. With the financing granted by the project, the KBC-Arad Development Agency accomplishes tasks in generating and developingprojects in various fields.
